Copyright and copyleft/copyright-free

All kinds of people enjoy expressing themselves on the internet. Some do it for fun, some do it to be heard and seen, and some do it like a diary so they can document their doings.
If you post your work on the internet it’s out for everybody to copy your work. Even the smallest of ideas can be stolen and used for the thieves own benefit. The smartest thing you do is to copyright your creations with a copyright symbol, name and the creation year. Many don’t know that the image is copyrighted from the moment it is born. This is your product.

I found a blog with beautiful drawings from Adam.

This is not from Adam, but it's beautiful!!
Every single image was easy for me to copy or save at my computer. This is allowed to do, but in the minuet you put the image in your blog and post it, without asking for permission from the person who created the drawing, then you break the rules. This is stealing!!!
Let’s talk more about Adam. To use his work in this task I have to ask him if that’s all right. So I left a comment under the picture I wanted to borrow. I haven't got a answers yet!!

All that's created by the mind is Intellectual Property. What can be done to prevent stealing from happening?  Include copyright to your products and this will maybe not happen. How to do this in Photoshop? Do you need a copyright symbol, these are for free.   Do you need a copyleft symbol ?  (This is like copyright-free)
Even if the copyright is included in an image people can use it without asking if it’s okay to use. They can transfer it to a program and try to take away the copy mark or just use it like it is and hope it turns out fine.

Everyday people around the world young and old are searching the internet for picture to use in different assignments.   So if you’re not making this creation yourself…..you have to ask.  An example:
I’m a teacher and all the time I make PowerPoint presentations for the pupils. In a presentation it’s about 10 pages and this includes from 1- 4 pictures I find on the internet. After learning about copyright I have to ask around 40 people if it’s okay to use their materials. I think I’ll use my own pictures from now on!!!

Or there is another way……

If you use Google in search of the pictures, you can write: copyright-free or copyleft (lion). Then Google will show you all the pictures of lions that are free to use. This is clever!!! Go hunting!!!

Digital Dossier/ Digital Footprints

Digital-Footprint

The name in the headline has never crossed my eyes or ears. For me it could be a candy. Do you know what it is?
It is the digital traces you leave every time you use the internet. It not only you, but even your friend and family are leaving traces about you. Click on the foot and have a lesson in digital footprints.

An example: When the police get the bad guys, they can track the thieves’ whereabouts. The computers have an IP – address witch are connected to every thing the bad guys did on the internet before and after their criminal actions.

Are you a heavy facebook user? Well every single post, comment, likes, picture and so on are stored. Even if you delete a post it will not show, but it’s connected to you IP-address and it’s a digital track.
We are always told what to post and not to post on the internet for our own safety, but do will listen all the time?

Did you know that if you are applying for a job…….the employee will search you on internet and find out what you have said and done. This can be important for your next employer who decides in the end if you get the job or not. So maybe the sentence about a hangover on a workday is not the right thing to express online. It’s not only your posts who can be damaging for you, but pictures your family and friends also post. Maybe you need to Google yourself and see what appears. Here are an interesting article about the subject. And here is an interesting YouTube video that makes the topic about the footprints you leave for your future boss, even clearer.

In all social medias like Facebook, Twitter, MySpace, Google, Yahoo, Delicious and so on, its important to go to the settings make the necessary changes so you are as protected as possible. If you are a Google user, you’ll find some great tips here to how to have control of some of you tracks.

So remember that every time you do something on the internet the footsteps will not go away like the waves take them away at the beach.

These digital tracks started long before you were born and will follow you long after you are dead.

Smartboard in norwegian classrooms

More and more Norwegian schools bring the smart board in to the classroom. Some teacher may be scared by the new technology. I don’t blame them. In our school we received two 3M board and one Smart board. In reality that means that we must learn how to use to separate boards in our daily job. This can even be too much for me to handle….and I love ICT and find these new items interesting. At my school we are only 28 pupils and that also reflects in the economics in school. There is no way possible for us to have an instructor who can show us how to use the boards. It’s a money issue. I mean that we are stuck with three boards…. I have to use internet and manuals to learn about these boards.

How can these boards strengthen the education in school when the teachers don’t have the knowledge??

This is a Norwegian study about ICT in schools. It describes how the teachers develop their ICT skills. The interesting is that these questions don’t fit a small school with a small amount of teachers.

Ski is like ICT......

I mean it!!

Ski is like ICT!!!!!

These last two days I've been doing some exercise out in the field. The weather has been nice and the snow has covered the ground. So I and my 3 children have spent one hour each day. It started rather good. After a few minutes my heart was beating fast and my forehead was starting to sweat. Yes of course it’s supposed to this under a workout, but is this going to happen when I use my computer?

I still haven't found the solution to my printer problem.

Donald looks content!!

Beautiful weather outside.

My computer and I are on a mission!!!!

ICT problems!!!

My printer has decided to have a vacation. I don't know what to do. If I didn't have a wireless printer in my home, I didn't know what I was missing, but I do have a printer and I use it all most everyday for printing.

Its hard to be an untecnical woman!!!

The second aspect of e-culture

This aspect involves the cultural innovation and the new form of expression. These are divided in intermediality (this is in swedish), intertextuality and interactivity. Is this good or is it bad? There are always two sides of every course. The e-culture opens up a whole new world for us humans for good and for bad.
The fantastic things about the e-culture is that every where I’m at I can always hook up to a computer and find out all the information I need. I can express my views about a matter in a blog every single day, and even several times a day. The e-culture office is constant open. In my blogs I can use text, images, sound and hyperlinking to understate my message. What any person decides to write about is up to the person him- and herself. That the beauty of blogging. Blogs can contain food, cupcakes , training, fashion, music, everyday life, daddys paternity leave, cars, ICT, pets, and we can go on forever. These are harmless blogs that can inspire other to make a change, do something new, make their own blog ect. Blogging is also used in schools. Pupils are blogging instead of writing in the same old book and they  are strengthening  their writing and also their ICT skills. Children become smarter if they are allowed on the internet. But it is important for the school and parents that they make smart rules for being on the internet.
But is it all good? There are several negative sides about expressing themselves on the internet through a blog. There are a few blogs that focus on negative issues in society, and it’s not wrong that also these persons express themselves, but sometimes it goes terribly wrong. A ligh version is about a Norwegian teacher, that in his sparetime made violence movies and shared them on Youtube. But we have other stories that even cost several humans their life. One story is about a boy in Finland that said on the internet, in a Youtube video that he was going to shoot at his school…..and he did. Seven pupils and a headmaster was killed.
So I think I’m right when I’m saying:

THE INTERNET IS WONDERFUL IN MANY WAYS,
BUT BEVARE OF IT’S ERRORS.
